the graybear story

That’s me.

Awkwardly holding an axe in the bush.

Its a nice axe though- and it’s one I’m proud of and one that comes after literally years of playing around in this space.

Graybear as a concept was started way back in 2011 as my passion project. Looking for a way to share with the world an ongoing love of doing, making, and going- I started chronicling projects, new discoveries, trips, and recent creations. Eventually, I was making knives and selling axes, writing blogs, and throwing myself at what was a fulfilling hobby. Time and chance followed and eventually, other passions and callings took precedence, and projects and dreams for Graybear slipped into memory and eventually into regret.

Which is why we’re here now.

Re-kindling a love for what brings light and joy for me- hoping it will for others too.

For some, it might be sport, or the ocean, or gaming, or any host of interests- but for me, among other things, it’s the very singular pleasure to be found in the simplicity of an axe- Sharp and useful. Simple and elemental.

You may already share that passion. Hopefully, if you don’t, you will discover the satisfaction of a well-designed, expertly-made tool that will perform and last for decades.

Thousands of years of tradition. In our hands today. I like that.

Have a good look around. Soak it in. You might find yourself loving these axes as much as I do. Maybe.
